How it works

Corrected before it's translated.

Other translators guess what you meant. Linguist tells you what you got wrong, explains why, and then translates the corrected version — so you learn the fix and get the meaning.

  • Grammar-checked first, translated second — no more embarrassing mistakes
  • Every correction includes the rule and an example in your native language
  • Recurring errors are tracked and turned into practice material automatically
  • Practice the same gap by chat, voice, story, or flashcard

Why: When talking about a past desire, use the imperfect (quería) instead of the present (quiero). The action was in the past.
Translation: I wanted to go to the store yesterday.

Everything you need to actually learn a language.

Translate, chat, read, drill, track. The pieces work together — your mistakes in one mode show up in the others.

Correct, then translate

Your text gets grammar-checked first, so the translation reflects what you meant — not what you mistyped. Every correction comes with a short explanation in your native language.

Coaching chat

Type freely. Every mistake gets the rule, the fix, and an example — explained in your native language so you actually understand why.

Pattern tracking

"You've made this mistake 6× already." Recurring errors are surfaced with a fresh explanation each time.

Smart flashcards

Cards are auto-generated from the mistakes you actually make. No deck-building, no rote vocab lists — just spaced repetition on your real weak spots.

Daily story

A fresh short story, news brief, or dialogue at your CEFR level — every day, in the language you're learning.

Voice Mode

Tap to talk. Speak in your target language, get an instant response, and keep the conversation going hands-free. Corrections are tracked silently and surfaced after the call.

Roleplay scenarios

Order coffee in Paris, negotiate in Tokyo, argue with a Buenos Aires landlord. Real scenes, real feedback.

CEFR fluency score

A single number, anchored to the international CEFR scale, that reflects how you actually write — not basic phrases.

Progress per language

Track Spanish, Japanese, and German separately. Watch your score climb and your error rate fall over time.

How it works

Three steps. No grinding.

01

Write or speak naturally

Type or speak in your target language. Linguist accepts messy, half-formed sentences — that's the point.

02

Get corrected, in context

Mistakes are explained in your native language with the rule, the fix, and why it matters. You see exactly what went wrong and how to avoid it next time.

03

Practice the gaps that matter

Recurring mistakes become smart flashcards. Daily stories at your level keep input fresh. Voice mode lets you practice out loud. Your CEFR score reflects real progress.

Fluency score

Difficulty-weighted, so basic Spanish doesn't game it.

Your score is anchored to the CEFR scale used by language schools worldwide. Writing "Hola, ¿cómo estás?" correctly 100 times doesn't make you fluent — and Linguist knows it.

  • Complex grammar attempted correctly raises your score more.
  • Repeated easy phrases plateau quickly — you have to stretch.
  • Mistakes in basic constructions cost more than mistakes in advanced ones.
  • Score updates per language, so your French progress doesn't muddle your Japanese.

FAQ

Quick answers.

What is Voice Mode?+

Tap the mic and speak in the language you're learning. Linguist transcribes you, replies with synthesized speech, and you can keep talking back hands-free. Mistakes are tracked silently so the conversation flows naturally — you see all the corrections as notes once the call ends.

What languages are supported?+

Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Arabic, and more. New ones get added regularly — if your target language isn't listed, email us.

How are the daily stories chosen?+

Each day you get a fresh short story, news brief, or dialogue generated at your current CEFR level in the language you're learning. The vocabulary stretches you without overwhelming you, and tapping any word gives you a definition and example.

Where do the flashcards come from?+

Linguist watches the mistakes you make in chat, voice, and translation, and turns the ones worth drilling into spaced-repetition cards automatically. No deck-building. The cards are graded by AI against the meaning, not just exact wording.

How is the fluency score calculated?+

It's anchored to the CEFR scale (A1–C2) and weighted by difficulty. Basic phrases don't inflate your score — complex constructions used correctly raise it more than safe, simple sentences.

Is my data private?+

Yes. Your translations, chats, and voice transcripts are visible only to you and stored under row-level security. We don't sell your data, and we use AI providers that do not train on your content.

Can I cancel anytime?+

Yes. Cancel from Settings → Subscription and you'll keep Pro access until the end of your current billing period. We also offer a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Do I need a credit card to start?+

No. The Free plan gives you 30 translations and 20 practice messages per month — no card required.

Is there an iOS app?+

Not yet. Linguist works great on mobile browsers — add it to your home screen for a near-native experience. A native iOS app is on the roadmap.

How does Linguist compare to Google Translate or DeepL?+

Those translate. Linguist teaches. It corrects your input first, explains why each change matters, lets you practice by voice, and tracks the mistakes you keep making so you actually learn the language.

Who handles payment?+
